'It's been a long time since I 'rock n rolled' or, in the usual fez code lingo, that translates to; there hasn't been a 'hotdam' blog entry since January 'recoverary.' It's now July 'Hi' and times have been happy, sad, good and getting better. Aside from the usual increase in costs of living, and exuberant gas hikes, I personally, have been trying my time at the more artistic sides to life, to keep the edge of living toward thriving, rather than just surviving.
Screen/play writing has been tough, though I'm still writing and jamming on funny 'fez' type songs; 'Weed's (S)c(h)ool', 'Something Terrible', and 'The Boogie Man' are a few . I did a cold read with my buddies for the play 'Beach' (that I co wrote years back) but we ended up burning the script at the scene of our cold read as I almost faded into the fire - seriously I think the play has potential. On the flip of flux, I have been busier than a 'bee' in heat this first half, 2008. My Stand up Comedy performance has been on the down low, but I have compensated by trying live theatre, and joining FearlessTV, a volunteer community TV on Shaw Ch4 (I helped produce 3 shows this spring). I've been trying to Jam more on the guitar and vocals, after getting lots of music theory and therapy from my teacher over the winter.
So far this year:
As a chorus member, in the Downtown East side Opera Company, Condemned, I sang about the DTES housing issues;
In the spring production, Socrates on Trial, at UBC's Telus Theatre I performed as understudy in the three act play;
Up next, another volunteer theatre production, a WW 1 Vaudeville Comedy half hour show in Brookfield Hall at Burnaby Lake Museum in Deer lake - it's like going to Canada's Wonderland for the 3 times daily show. This Vaudeville show runs every Sunday in August including BC day and Labour day, 1,2,3 pm, and I'll be doing a lot more singing and Dancing compared to the other two performances early this year;
Joining FearlessTV, has kept me in the film and television loop, and I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity of working with some great mentors in the DTES helping to produce three shows on Ch4 this spring. My volunteering efforts here have been rewarded through direct editing practice, and training in the field of community TV production. The photos you see of FearlessTV are of the ever changing crew and some form our monthly Sunday Mobile shoot of artists, activists, and other DTES community guests. Up next, the August 2008 second annual Fearless Festival is around the corner.
As for my personal flux, most of family and friends are doing well, some getting older wiser, some growing and learning (I'm more of the ladder), and more and more of my 'Fez' Possy, from TO to Guelph and 'back again' to Vangroover, are getting hitched down the alter or under the chutzpa (see JnT link). Final input; as all my elders have said before me, "time moves more and more quickly," and sometimes you loose touch with more people than you ever really thought you would, so -- 'do what you are' now! Enjoy life as much as you can remember too, and be as good as you can to the people in your immediate life, cause you just never know what tomorrow brings. HDDH.
Above are some photos of my 2008, first half, projects, and below family and friends....and, finally the Snow Shoe Video I've been trying at so long....
